Audition Update 2

The production/casting committee has met and we are very excited about all of the buzz surrounding auditions. I am hearing from many people -- including a large number who have never auditioned at RLT -- that they are looking forward to Dec. 6th 7th and 8th! It will certainly make the casting committee's task more difficult but we say "bring it on!" CHILDREN'S ROLES: There have been many questions about this. We always want to try to incorporate children into a show -- My Fair Lady has no childrens roles in the script. However, we will plan to cast a maximum of 5 children who will be on stage during street scenes and any other scenes we can stage them in without disturbing the flow of the show. These roles are for children who can SING. They will be required to be able to contribute to the group musical numbers. We are stating a preference for kids at least 8 years old and above.

KEY -- CHILDREN SHOULD be at the Theater for their singing audition by no later than 5:45pm on Sunday December 6th. We will hear them while the others are in the lobby registering and having pictures taken.

PLEASE PLEASE - if you can, please use the on-line form to prepare your audition forms and bring them with you to the audition or drop them at RLT. This will make auditions go much faster and easier. Of high importance to the committee (and me in particular) is for you to please fill in the experience section as detailed as possible -- yes this means theater work but especially in terms of musical training, prior solo performance and choral work. As you have surmised -- THIS IS A MUSICAL -- meaning in many ways the music tells the story and conveys the emotion of the show. You do not have to be a classically trained vocalist to be cast -- but being able to read music is a huge plus. Any other questions please feel free to post them here and ask. The only dumb question is the one that isn't asked.

Our scene rehearsal for Wed. November 18th has been changed to a vocal rehearsal. Because of set construction we will work on the music in the gallery. Start time will be 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. for full cast. Soloist will remain and work on their songs until 9:00 p.m..

Lend Me a Tenor at Berry College Theatre

My wife, Shari, and I attended Lend Me a Tenor at Berry College, and we were impressed! The play is a 2 act comedy set in 1934 Cleveland and involves a famous Italian tenor running into problems getting to the opera. The result is a zany evening of laughs filled with mistaken identities, double entendres, and innuendoes. The eight students on stage all turned in very solid performances with great timing, and the set and costumes were absolutely breath-taking. Shari said she hadn't laughed so hard since RLT's The Foreigner this past Spring. It was the first time we had been in the Berry Theatre, and it is built like an ampitheatre with the stage below the audience. There is no reserved seating (all are general admission), but there are no bad seats in the house, and the price is right - $7 per ticket. Lend Me a Tenor continues to run November 19-21 at 8 PM and November 22d at 2 PM, with the doors opening 30 minutes prior to show time. We highly recommend this production.

Cast, All Dancers, and Toyland Dolls. If you have not tried on your costume with Becky Magruder, you need to do it this week. Becky will be at the theatre Monday, November 2nd from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m.. If you can't meet with her then, call her at 706-235-0671 or 706-936-6683 to schedule an appointment. All costuming must be done by November 6th.

Babes in Toyland T-Shirt orders are due by Friday, November 6th. The forms are in your folders. They are long sleeve and the cost is $20. Plus sizes are $22. You can turn your order in to Becky Magruder, Suzanne Clonts, or Melissa Bowman. If you don't have a form see one of the above persons to get one.
